AS Latvenergo has more than 60 years of experience in the field of telecommunications; it has been acquired while providing Latvenergo with inside telecommunications.
In autumn of 1996 Latvenergo branch Tehniskais centrs was established with the aim to take over functions that are not characteristic of such business division as electricity generation, transmission and distribution. The core business of Tehniskais centrs was to provide telecommunications services to Latvenergo itself.
On 1 January 2003 the Public Utilities Commission issued VAS Latvenergo licence No T10034 granting the right to provide services of voice telephony, data transmission and internet. Since then Latvenergo has been actively engaged in providing data transmission services, creating a considerable competition among the big players in the field of telecommunications.
On 1 June 2004 the name Tehniskais centrs was changed to Latvenergo Telekomunikācijas.
Latvenergo Telekomunikācijas worked in compliance with quality systems LVS ISO 9001: 2000 and LVS ISO 14001: 2004 thus attesting that customers receive services of the highest standards.
In 2005 Latvenergo Telekomunikācijas was awarded the Quality Award for high achievements in introducing comprehensive quality management principles for small and medium enterprises. The Latvian Quality Award is awarded annually by the Latvian Quality Association and the Ministry of Economics.
On 19 June 2007 AS Latvenergo Management Board confirmed a new information technology (IT) and telecommunications (T) development scheme, commissioning IT&T functions to one organisational unit.
The restructurization is done with the aim to create the most efficient cooperation model between the IT&T organisational units. The established organisational unit, making use of best practice and experience acquired both by Latvenergo Telekomunikācijas and IT department, has set the following aims:
- improve and develop further IT&T business division by introducing individual and innovative solutions;
- provide high quality IT&T services to customers;
- offer to companies innovative, qualitative and convenient solutions in the field of electronic communications network.
